Tanzania: Swedish Members Of Parliament Visiting Our Project

Exchanging Experiences On The Premises

On Sep. 4th 2016, a delegation from the Swedish Parliament’s “Committee on Environment and Agriculture” visited our project in Tanzania. The delegation was accompanied by Mrs. Katarina Rangnitt, the Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania.

The Swedish International Development Agendcy (SIDA) has been co-financing the project since 2011 and the cooperation is very constructive and fruitful.

During their visit, the parliamentarians met one of the member groups of the Tanzania Coffee Alliance (TCFA), Ngyani Rural Primary Cooperative Society. The delegation benefited from a direct exchange with the cooperative members and learned about the challenges faced by smallholder farmers in their daily coffee production. The parlamentarians also visited a coffee wet mill, a coffee nursery and a project demonstration plot.

All participants strongly appreciated this exchange, both sides feeling a mutual benefit, developing a more sustainable perspective on farming in the future.

The Chairwomen of the Delegation, Matilda Ernkrans, commented: "On behalf of the Committee on Environment and Agriculture of the Swedish Parliament I wish to express my sincere gratitude with which (we were received) during our visit to Arusha on September 4th, 2016 - and that on a Sunday! The comprehensive information on your work with sustainable coffee farming was very much appreciated by the Committee. The visit to the coffee nursery as well as the meeting with the Ngyani board members and having a short glimpse on the coffee demo plot gave us a further feeling of understanding of the conditions for the coffee farmers."
