International Coffee Partners (ICP) – comprising Delta Cafés of Portugal, Franck of Croatia, Joh. Johannson Kaffe of Norway, Lavazza of Italy, Löfbergs of Sweden, Neumann Kaffee Gruppe of Germany, and Tchibo of Germany – remains a strong partner for resilient coffee farming families and their communities in times of global uncertainty. The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident – from droughts in coffee-growing regions to wildfires and water shortages in California. At the same time, international aid and environmental initiatives are being reduced or withdrawn altogether in several countries. These developments highlight the urgency of long-term action. ICP exemplifies how consistent, long-term efforts can lead to meaningful change.

Impact on the Ground: Improved Livelihoods Through Collaboration

As family-owned coffee companies, the ICP partners share a common vision. Their goal is to support smallholder coffee farmers to adapt to climate change, enhance coffee productivity and quality, and secure a more prosperous future for their families and communities.

"I have seen for myself how ICP’s commitment makes a difference. During my visits to producing countries, I have met farming families whose livelihoods have improved through knowledge, collaboration, and access to technology enabled by our projects."

Rui Miguel Nabeiro, Chairman ICP Steering Committee

In 2024, a total of 24,891 smallholder farming families participated in ICP projects, which refer to the ICP focus topics climate resilience, family farming, organizational development, youth engagement, and gender equity. Of all training participants, 28% were young farmers aged between 18 and 35, and 40% were women. ICP also worked with 1,281 farmer organizations across its project regions.

Sustainable Growth Instead of Short-Term Solutions

Despite rising production costs, lower yields, and increasing input prices, ICP remains committed to its long-term approach. In many project regions, the results are already visible: farmers are investing in new seedlings, and nurseries are empty – a clear sign of confidence in long-term planning and sustainable development.

"We are aiming for a responsible, long-lasting growth. Sustainable growth and sustainable profitability are essential. The alternative is long-term negative consequences."

Rui Miguel Nabeiro

Family Businesses with a Multi-Generational Perspective

The seven ICP partners act with a strong sense of long-term responsibility. As family-owned companies, they avoid short-term thinking – knowing that each decision they make will impact future generations and the communities in which they operate. ICP will continue to be a reliable partner working toward a better future for smallholder coffee farming families around the world.
